The Documentary Association of Pakistan (DAP) is an initiative by and for documentary filmmakers to build audiences, strengthen community, and to provide mentorship and training to documentary filmmakers.
DAP has been working to provide access to Pakistani and International Documentary films by organizing film screenings since 2016. DAP also works closely with documentary filmmakers to provide them with networking and training opportunities by organizing filmmaker meet-ups, training workshops, access to global forums, and film development labs.
The ‘Chalta Phirta Documentary Festival’ is our travelling documentary film festival that will show thought-provoking films in 5 cities for its 4th edition in Karachi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Islamabad, and Quetta. Through Chalta Phirta Documentary Festival, DAP’s aim is to broaden audiences for independent documentary films and outreach of filmmakers to cities that are frequently ignored when it comes to the provision of thriving cultural and social events.
The festival showcases the best of new works from Pakistani Documentary filmmakers and essential films from the region and the globe, focusing on Pakistani premieres of award winning films. The festival is filmmaker focused, with an intentional invite-only curation every edition. This year, the program will showcase 4 feature documentaries and 8 shorts. Countries represented this year are Pakistan, India, Bhutan, Palestine, France, Iran and Sudan.

This year’s festival is made possible by the volunteer efforts of the DAP Team and the generous support of Movies That Matter, and the Embassy of France in Islamabad, with additional cooperation generously provided by The Learning Hub College (TLHC) in Gujranwala, Quetta Book Cafe in Quetta and Alliance Francaise in Lahore and Nani Ghar in Karachi. Additional venue partners are Sardar Hasan Musa College in Quetta and The Black Hole in Islamabad.
