This year’s addition to honour 34 winners across categories, including Emmy winners ‘The Pitt’ and ‘Adolescence’

Palestinian-American comedian Mohammed “Mo” Amer is set to host the 86th annual Peabody Awards. The comedian, best known for his critically acclaimed Netflix series Mo, will host the ceremony on May 31 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.

This year’s Peabody Awards will recognise 34 winners across entertainment, news, documentary, podcast/radio, arts, and children’s youth programming. Among the winners are Emmy recipients The Pitt and Adolescence.

“Mo Amer is the comedic voice we need now. His comedy is bold and refreshing because he mines his own personal, heartfelt experiences as a refugee and blends them with cultural commentary that is powerful, moving, and very funny,” said Peabody executive director Jeffrey P Jones in a statement to Variety.

Amer also commented on hosting the ceremony, saying: “It’s a true honour to host the 86th Annual Peabody Awards. The Peabodys have always celebrated storytelling that cuts through the noise and speaks something real,” he told Variety.

He added: “As someone who grew up feeling unseen in a lot of spaces, I know firsthand how powerful these stories can be. I’m so excited to celebrate journalists and creators who continue to move culture forward – and tell stories that make us laugh, think, cry, or see the world a little differently.”

In addition to the awards, several special honours will be presented. Amy Poehler will receive the Peabody Career Achievement Award, Sterlin Harjo will be honored with the Peabody Trailblazer Award, and James L Brooks will receive the Peabody Industry Icon Award.
