Ed Sheeran recalls sweet first encounter with Olivia Rodrigo, her mom
Ed Sheeran looked back at the sweet memory of meeting Olivia Rodrigo and her mom.
The 34-year-old singer-songwriter made a surprise appearance during Rodrigo’s headline show at BST Hyde Park in London on June 27 and the duo performed Sheeran’s 2011 hit The A Team together.
The Azizam hitmaker took to his Instagram account and recalled meeting Rodrigo almost three years ago.
“Been a fan of Olivia’s since ‘Drivers License‘ blew my mind back at the start of 2021,” Sheeran wrote referring to her breakout single in the caption, alongside a video of their duet. “Both albums [2021’s Sour and 2023’s Guts] are no skips for me, I’m a proper fan.”
Sheeran said he and Rodrigo met in 2022 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. “Sat next to each other with her mum [Jennifer] and my dad [John] and went on to hang and keep in touch from there,” he recalled.
Reflecting on his recent performance of The A Team with Rodrigo, he gushed it “was such a buzz.”
Calling the deja vu singer “one of the brightest stars of the next generation,” Sheeran told her to “rock” her upcoming Glastonbury set, adding “UK loves you.”
