Nicolas Cage is clarifying his comments about being “homeless.”
Speaking to Extra alongside his wife Riko Shibata on Thursday, November 5, the Oscar-winning actor admitted he could have chosen better phrasing when he claimed earlier this week that he’s “a little bit homeless” due to a massive sinkhole damaging his Malibu mansion.
“Meaning, my house was not available to my trick or treaters on Halloween night, and Halloween is a very important holiday to me,” Cage, 62, explained to Extra as Shibata chuckled. “Not that we are destitute — that was my point. I really have to watch my words to the letter. The scrutiny is immense. To the letter. OK, should I have said, ‘unhomed?’ Maybe.”

When the National Treasure star first made the comment during L.A. Comic Con on Saturday, he was responding to a question about his Halloween plans.
“I’m currently a little bit homeless. Something happened to my house in Malibu so I’m just sort of living in hotels so I don’t have normal trick-or-treaters I would like to enjoy tonight,” he said.
Speaking to Extra, the Ghost Rider actor clarified, “I just mean my house was not decorated, it is red-tagged. Please don’t go to that house. You might hurt yourself. That’s my point.
Cage emphasised that he, Shibata, and their 4-year-old daughter August “are doing fine.” The trio now plan to spend Thanksgiving in Santa Monica, saying, “we’ll find something to do.”
