Robert Smith of The Cure has opened up about his new music.
Speaking with Radio X, Smith shared that has written a “really catchy pop song” that could become a Christmas single.
Smith jokingly said, “I always just want an emotional response from what I write… Unless I think. ‘This is a catchy idea’, but those days have kind of gone a little bit.”
“Although I have written a really catchy pop song! I’m struggling to figure out how I’m gonna release it. Having been up in town all day, the amount of times I’ve heard [Wham!‘s] ‘Last Christmas’. I think I just need to stick some Christmas words on it and get it out there!” he added.
It is worth mentioning that this news comes as Smith teased more music from The Cure. The band is reportedly working on two new albums, one of which is described as “companion piece” to their latest release Songs of A Lost World.
In an interview with Absolute Radio’s Danielle Perry, Smith said, “There is another album which is pretty much ready to go. It’s sort of its companion piece. Then there’s a third one which is completely different. It’s really kind of random stuff, like late-night studio stuff. But some of it is really good actually, it’s just very very different.”
