Giorgio Armani on Monday showcased its maiden menswear runway collection under the sole creative direction of Leo Dell’Orco at Milan Fashion Week, following the death of the iconic designer in September last year.

Leo Dell’Orco, the designer’s long-time collaborator and right-hand man of nearly four decades, marked his debut at the Italian fashion house, where he now oversees the menswear collection. This was the first Giorgio Armani collection where the late designer did not have any involvement, The Guardian reported.

During the show, the front row featured celebs like Ricky Martin and Hudson Williams.

Giorgio Armani’s New Collection: Top Highlights

The collection previewed appeared in continuity with Armani’s heritage soft tailoring, with fresh signs of sharpness and modernity, The Associated Press reported.

From first glance, it looked as if Dell’Orco had embraced a fresh colour story, featuring a loden green top accompanied by a textured jacket and gray trousers.

Another major highlight was the blouson bomber jackets and belted trench coat looks, which were accompanied by white shirts and ties as well as the trademark pleated trousers.

Since the brand was famous for its relaxed suiting and fluid folds in silk and velvet under Armani, Dell’Orco tried his best to keep it in his design, but shifted the focus towards jewel-like tones.

During his time, Armani rarely staged a finale during the fashion events. But the latest collection from his iconic brand received a full walk-through at the Milan Fashion Week, where the crowd applauded its new vision.

“Somehow it feels more energetic, there is something about joy. It is not a new beginning but you can sense something new is happening, there is a sense of energy that is great,” The Associated Press quoted Alex Badia, WWD’s fashion and style director, as saying.

Carlo Capasa, head of Milan’s fashion chamber, dubbed the latest men’s collection from Giorgio Armani as “modern,” adding that he observed the “true spirit of Armani”.

For the special occasion, Dell’Orco was seen donning a double-breasted suit without a tie.

What’s Next For Giorgio Armani?

After Giorgio Armani’s demise, speculations have been doing the rounds regarding the future creative direction of the brand’s biannual collections, The Guardian reported. Several names have reportedly been considered for the role, including former Celine and Dior Homme creative director Hedi Slimane.

While Dell’Orco now looks after the brand’s menswear collection, Armani’s niece, Silvana, continues in her role as womenswear design director.
