Let’s take a look at the importance of Mehendi, Haldi, Sangeet, and Engagement ceremonies in weddings.
Indian weddings are known for their grandeur, larger-than-life celebrations, colourful extravaganza and most importantly, representation of culture. Of all the much-cherished customs, some particular events are as enjoyable as the main show. They include Mehendi, Haldi, Sangeet and Engagement.
Rather than being regular traditions, these events reflect love and unity. They capture the shared joy of families, making moments memorable and, of course, picture-perfect.
Let’s take a look at the importance of each one of them:
Mehendi
During the Mehendi ceremony, the bride’s hands and feet are adorned with beautiful intricate henna designs. Apart from its aesthetic appeal, this ritual represents prosperity and blessings for the couple set out on their path together. The designs may contain aspects such as fertility and happiness that form a richness of the bride’s culture.
Haldi
The tradition of the Haldi ceremony has a spiritual element to it. A paste made from turmeric is rubbed on the bride and the groom, symbolising purification. It not only acts as a beautifying ritual for the body but also shields against negative energies. The sound of joyous laughter and playful teasing not only warms up the gathering before the commencement of the celebrations but also brings family members closer.
Sangeet
The Sangeet ceremony cranks up the pomp of the celebrations with loads of music. This comprises music and dance night, allowing families to celebrate their cultures. Apart from the beautiful dance moves and fabulous music, the Sangeet also helps strengthen bonds. This is probably the happiest night, and the pace of the music sets the mood for the following days.

Engagement
The Engagement ceremony is no less significant and has an undeniable allure to it. It is one of the legal recognitions of a union as lovers that formally shows how the two intend to live together. This ritual is therefore very much centred on the families since both families pray for the young couple and endorse the unity of marriage. The rituals of engagement ceremonies are different across different cultures and beliefs and, therefore, bring out the unique traditional touch on the event.
