Kumbh Mela 2025: The Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, which takes place every 12 years, will begin on January 13 and conclude on February 26, 2025.
The Uttar Pradesh Police is taking significant precautions to ensure its officers serve as “servants of faith” and provide an exceptional experience for devotees gathering in the holy city for the Maha Kumbh. These measures include a strict vegetarian diet, alcohol abstinence, and behavioural training.
The upcoming Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, which takes place every 12 years, will begin on January 13 and conclude on February 26, 2025. The event will start on Paush Purnima and end on Mahashivratri.
The Maha Kumbh 2025 will be a major milestone in promoting Indian cultural traditions on a global stage.

According to reports, Senior Superintendent of Police (Kumbh) Rajesh Dwivedi emphasised that, apart from ensuring security, the police’s primary goal is to create a welcoming environment for pilgrims.
“We aim to ensure that devotees have a pleasant experience, with police officers behaving warmly — not just as enforcers of the law but as servants of faith,” Dwivedi said, as quoted by PTI.
In addition, Dwivedi reinforced the strict food and drink restrictions for the Maha Kumbh, stating that non-vegetarian food and alcohol would not be permitted on the Mela grounds.

“The food served in the police mess is entirely vegetarian. We have instructed all personnel to act in a manner that respects the devotees’ faith,” he added.
Reportedly, police personnel deployed for the Maha Kumbh are receiving behavior-focused training at a specialized facility in the Mela area. External trainers will also be brought in to teach etiquette and public service skills.
As of now, 1,500 police personnel have completed the training, and by the time the Mela begins, 40,000 personnel will have finished the course.

Furthermore, Atul Kumar Singh, the training program’s in-charge, stated that 700 police personnel are being trained simultaneously, following a 21-day course. As the Mela approaches, the training duration will gradually be shortened to 14 days.
The National Police Academy is also providing specialized training for the police. Personnel trained there are now preparing trainers and equipping the larger police contingent for their participation in the Mela. This training ensures officers maintain the sanctity of the Maha Kumbh and uphold the event’s religious and cultural significance.
