The fashion moment came at the designer duo’s milestone celebration in Mumbai on September 6, where celebrities, fashion personalities and long-time friends of the house gathered to mark four decades of Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The evening was held at Mubarak Baug, the designers’ new flagship in South Mumbai, and featured a showcase that looked back at their extensive fashion legacy, including the return of several models associated with their earlier years.
Navya’s choice added another layer to the celebration. Rather than opting for an entirely new look, she appeared to revisit one already connected to her family, a look her mother Shweta Bachchan Nanda wore when she attended the designers’ show at BMW India Bridal Fashion Week in 2015.

For the 2026 celebration, Navya wore the heavily embellished gold mini dress, featuring an ornate arrangement of circular and scalloped embellishments across the bodice and skirt. She paired the look with embellished pumps and kept the rest of her styling understated, allowing the intricate craftsmanship to take centre stage.
The look carried a particularly personal connection for Navya, as it was previously worn by her mother, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, in 2015.

Sonam Kapoor was the show’s major fashion moment. She opened the presentation in a dramatic gold gown before returning in a bridal look featuring a heavily embellished lehenga, a zardozi-and-Swarovski blouse and a dupatta worn over her head.
The front row also included Jaya Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Navya Nanda, along with Dimple Kapadia and other fashion personalities.

The designers’ relationship with the Bachchan family goes back decades. Their association became particularly significant around Shweta Bachchan Nanda’s 1997 wedding, which Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla have described as the first event they designed for the family. Their work for the wedding encompassed the decor and ensembles across the celebrations.
Over the years, the Bachchans have remained closely associated with the label, with Jaya, Shweta and other members of the family repeatedly wearing their creations.
Now, more than 30 years after Shweta’s wedding and more than a decade after her 2015 appearance, Navya Nanda has given one of her mother’s Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla looks a new life.
