Punjabi singer-actor Sunanda Sharma has opened up about one of the darkest phases of her life, making candid revelations about depression, love, an eight-year relationship and the financial freedom that helped her reclaim her life.
Sunanda Sharma recalled one of the darkest periods of her life, revealing that she confined herself to a room for “2 months and 17 days” while battling depression. She said she stayed in complete darkness and barely interacted with her family, even knocking on the door when she wanted food from her mother.

The singer admitted that although she has moved forward, she believes the experience continues to affect her. “I think some part of depression is still left in me,” Sunanda said, adding that she had stopped speaking to people and felt lonely and scared during that phase.

In one of the most emotional revelations from the conversation, Sunanda admitted that expressions of love can make her anxious. She said she sometimes begins crying when someone shows her affection and once believed she needed to give people material things to stop them from leaving.

Sunanda said her eight-year relationship significantly shaped how she now views marriage. While she continues to believe in love and says she “loves being in love”, the singer admitted that marriage is not something she wants at this point in her life.

Speaking candidly about modern relationships, Sunanda expressed her scepticism about lifelong loyalty. The singer said she has seen seemingly happy couples deal with infidelity behind closed doors and admitted she isn’t prepared to share her partner with anyone.

Perhaps Sunanda’s strongest message was directed at women. The singer urged girls to focus on their careers and become financially independent, saying financial freedom gave her the courage to walk away from an unhealthy relationship. “Money gives you freedom,” she said.
