LAHORE: Multan Sultans on Tuesday set an easy target of 90 runs for Quetta Gladiators during the the 18th fixture of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10 at the Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
Gladiators’ formidable bowling attack dismantled Sultans, restricting them to a meager 89 runs in match.
After being put in to bat, Multan suffered an early setback as opener Yasir Khan was dismissed by Khurram Shahzad for just five runs, including a boundary, leaving the Sultans at 7-1 in 1.1 overs.
Shahzad struck again in the same over, removing Usman Khan for a second-ball duck and putting the Sultans under immense pressure with two wickets falling in the second over.
The right-arm pacer continued his fiery spell by claiming two more wickets in his next over. He dismissed Kamran Ghulam for three and Curtis Campher for four, reducing Multan to 20-4 in just 3.5 overs.
Captain Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed tried to stabilize the innings with a brief stand, but Quetta quickly regained control. Faheem Ashraf removed Iftikhar for six, leaving Multan reeling at 37-5 in 7.4 overs.
Ashraf struck again to dismiss Michael Bracewell for a duck, deepening the Sultans’ troubles at 43-6 in 9.2 overs.
The collapse continued as David Willey was removed by Mohammad Wasim Jr, who picked up his first wicket, reducing Multan to 60-7 in 12.4 overs.
A superb diving effort from Rilee Rossouw ran out Usama Mir for 11, handing the Sultans their eighth wicket at 73-8 in 14.1 overs.
Kusal Mendis was sharp behind the stumps, completing a run-out to dismiss Mohammad Hasnain for 2 runs, thanks to a brilliant throw from Hassan Nawaz. The Sultans were now 76-9 in 15.1 overs.
Skipper Mohammad Rizwan fought hard from one end, scoring 44 runs and eyeing yet another PSL fifty.
However, his resistance ended as Ubaid Shah was dismissed by Wasim Jr, concluding Multan’s innings at 89 in 17 overs with 18 deliveries remaining.
For the Gladiators, Khurram Shahzad led the attack with outstanding figures, claiming four wickets. Mohammad Wasim Jr and Faheem Ashraf supported well, picking up two wickets each.
