Pakistan’s aspirations of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final were dashed as they suffered a historic 2-0 series whitewash against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.

This defeat marks Pakistan’s first-ever series loss to the Bengal Tigers.

Bangladesh’s dominance was evident from the outset, with a commanding win in the first Test in Rawalpindi. They carried their momentum into the second Test, securing a six-wicket victory by successfully chasing down Pakistan’s target of 185 runs.

The series loss has raised serious concerns about Pakistan’s form and strategy, further diminishing their chances in the WTC standings.

According to the latest WTC 2023-25 standings, India leads with 74 points and a win percentage of 68.52 after 9 matches, followed by Australia in second place with 90 points and a 62.50 win percentage from 12 matches. New Zealand holds the third spot with 36 points and a 50.00 win percentage after 6 matches.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan are placed seventh and eighth, with Sri Lanka having 24 points and a 33.33 win percentage, and Pakistan languishing with 16 points and a 19.05 win percentage after 7 matches. West Indies is at the bottom with 20 points and an 18.52 win percentage from 9 matches.

With the WTC final now out of reach, Pakistan will regroup for the upcoming Champions ODI Cup 2024 before facing England in a crucial three-match Test series from October 7th to 24th, 2024, where they hope to bounce back and regain form.
