Thousands of nurses in three hospital systems in New York City have gone on strike after negotiations failed to yield breakthroughs in their contract disputes. The strikes, which are impacting around 15,000 nurses, were caused by disputes regarding benefits, staffing levels, and workplace safety among others. The strikes could potentially force hospitals to transfer patients and cancel procedures.
