As former US president Donald Trump faces a hush money trial with the judge reserving the decision of Tuesday’s court proceedings, the Secret Service has begun preparation about what to do when the 77-year-old is sent to jail, reported ABC News.

According to the prosecutors, they are currently seeking a fine, as Assistant District Attorney Chris Conroy said: “We are not yet seeking an incarceration penalty but the defendant seems to be angling for that.”

The report citing sources noted that “Judge Juan Merchan would not put Donald Trump in a holding cell in the courthouse but they are planning for contingencies.”

Former president Trump was indicted last year in March for allegedly falsifying business records to pay an adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 elections.

The payment was made by the former president’s then-attorney Michael Cohen.

In a statement, without commenting on Trump’s situation, the Service said: “Under federal law, the United States Secret Service must provide protection for current government leaders, former Presidents, and First Ladies, visiting heads of state and other individuals designated by the President of the United States.”

“For all settings around the world, we study locations and develop comprehensive and layered protective models that incorporate state-of-the-art technology, protective intelligence, and advanced security tactics to safeguard our protectees. Beyond that, we do not comment on specific protective operations.”
