When you are serving as the honorary chair for the Met Gala, the idea of what counts as “red carpet ready” reaches an entirely new level. For Lauren Sánchez Bezos, preparing for the 2026 event meant stepping far outside the traditional confines of luxury spas and green juices. In what is being dubbed the most unconventional prep in the event’s history, Sánchez Bezos revealed that she shed her final two pounds by undergoing rigorous training with the New York Fire Department (FDNY).
A “Bananas” Workout
While most A-listers spend the weeks leading up to the first Monday in May in fittings, Sánchez Bezos was busy donning heavy FDNY gear and navigating smoke-filled obstacle courses. “I went to visit the New York Fire Department and did their training,” she told Vogue. “It’s probably the most unique Met prep ever.”
The routine wasn’t just for show; it involved crawling through simulation courses and practicing life-saving maneuvers. “It was bananas, but I loved it. I probably lost about two pounds doing it,” she shared, proving that high-intensity functional training might be the secret to a red-carpet glow.
What Lauren Bezos Wore To The Met Gala 2026
The physical grit of her preparation was certainly visible in the gown that she chose to wear to the event. For the “Costume Art” theme, Sánchez Bezos collaborated with stylist Law Roach and Schiaparelli’s Creative Director, Daniel Roseberry, to create her look. She appeared in a custom, off-the-shoulder Schiaparelli gown featuring plunging lines and jewel-encrusted straps. The design served as a direct homage to one of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s most famous—and once scandalous—pieces: John Singer Sargent’s Madame X.
The reference to the 1883 portrait of socialite Virginie Amélie Avegno Gautreau was intentional. Sargent’s original painting, which featured a strap famously slipping off the shoulder, caused such a furour that the artist eventually repainted the strap in its upright position and kept the work hidden for thirty years.
