Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway: Distance, Travel Time, Safety Features And More
Travelling from Delhi to Katra by road is a long 14-hours journey for pilgrims and travellers. However, the upcoming Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is set to reduce the travel time to just 6 hours, covering a distance of 680 kilometers. The megaproject is expected to transform connectivity across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

Taking to X, the NHAI stated, “Spanning approximately 680 km, the access-controlled expressway will provide faster, safer and more efficient travel for commuters, pilgrims, businesses and freight movement.” (Image: File Photo)
Traveling from Delhi to Amritsar will take 4 hours. Passengers departing at 6:00 AM can easily reach Amritsar by 10:00 AM, allowing ample time to visit the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, and Wagah Border in a single day. (Image: File Photo)
The expressway begins near Nilothi village in Haryana’s Jhajjar district along the KMP Expressway. It passes through Jind, Sangrur, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar before reaching Nakodar, where the greenfield corridor splits toward two distinct destinations: Amritsar and Katra. (Image: File Photo)
The 100-km branch (NE-5A) connects Nakodar to Amritsar via Taran Taran. The main line (NE-5B) bypasses Kathua and Jammu, running directly through Pathankot to meet the Srinagar-Jammu Highway (NH 44), enabling an 8-hour drive from Delhi to Srinagar. (Image: File Photo)
