Andy Samberg on returning to ‘SNL’

Andy Samberg’s feeling it all back on Saturday Night Live.

The comedian recently joined host Seth Meyers on The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast, discussing making guest appearances on Saturday Night Live during its milestone 50th season.

Samberg, 46, reflected on what it feels like to return to the show, over a decade after his time as a regular cast member from 2005 to 2012. In conversation with Meyers, he shared that his recent experiences brought back memories of his earlier days on the show.

“It’s been fun, I gotta say,” Samberg said. “It’s been really fun going back, but again, also inheriting — re-inheriting — the stress of it and being like, ‘Oh, right, this is intense.’”

Currently, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine alum is taking on the role of Doug Emhoff, husband to Vice President Kamala Harris (portrayed by Maya Rudolph), in a series set around the 2024 election.

Reflecting on this role, Samberg shared that focusing on a single character, rather than juggling multiple roles per episode, has allowed for a more relaxed experience on set.

“It’s a little more mellow — me and Maya [Rudolph] have been talking about [how] it’s a little bit more mellow because we know why we’re there specifically,” he explained.
