Hero Fiennes Tiffin on ‘daunting’ ‘Young Sherlock’ role alongside uncle Joseph Fiennes

Hero Fiennes Tiffin found it “daunting” to take on the role of a young Sherlock Holmes.

In Prime Video’s upcoming show Young Sherlock, Hero plays a 19-year-old version of the famous fictional detective, who has been portrayed by the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Robert Downey Jr. (Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes films).

“Daunting is a good word — there was definitely a bit of that,” the After star told Entertainment Weekly. “I mean, there still is a bit of that, because it’s not even out yet.”

At the same time, this is a dream role for the Harry Potter star, who has always been a fan of the beloved sleuth.

“I’ve always been a fan of Sherlock, from my dad saying, ‘No s—, Sherlock,’ every time I said something obvious, all through Guy’s film installments,” he gushed.

“I’ve been obsessed with the character and Guy’s work. I feel like I’m peaking way too early because this is what dreams are made of for me,” he added.

After starring in Harry Potter as a younger version of Voldemort, played by his uncle Ralph Fiennes, Hero is once again acting alongside an uncle; this time its his other uncle, Joseph Fiennes.

Hero believes casting his uncle as his on screen dad Silas Holmes was a deliberate decision on part of showrunner Matthew Parkhill.

“I don’t know if I believe Matthew when he says this, but when they were looking to cast the role of Silas Holmes, I think they went out to Joe, and Matthew said shortly after, ‘Oh yeah, that’s Hero’s uncle. I forgot,'” he shared.

He added, “And I call bulls— on that, sorry. But nevertheless, it did feel really organic. And when he said, ‘Would you mind that? How would you feel about that?’ I said, ‘I would love nothing more.'”

Young Sherlock starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin will premiere on Prime Video in March 2026.
