Spencer Milligan, star of the classic Saturday morning kids show Land of the Lost for Sid and Marty Krofft as the park ranger and widowed father Rick Marshall in the 1970s , died at the age of 86.

According to an announcement made by his family, Milligan passed away on April 18 at his residence in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.

On the first two seasons of NBC’s Land of the Lost, the show that featured live-action dinosaurs along with stop-motion animated ones, Milligan portrayed the heroic father of youngsters Will Marshall (Wesley Eure) and Holly Marshall (Kathy Coleman)

The sci-fi show was based around an event where the family was stuck in an earthquake while on a rafting adventure and were thrown into an alternative universe.

The late star was born on September 10, 1937, in Oak Park, IL, and was cast as Rick Marshall in the Krofft brothers’ series Land of the Lost a year after the start of his career on the screen, which started off with a head-change specialist job in Woody Allen‘s futuristic 1973 comedy. The project starred Diane Keaton.

He also had roles in the 1974 features The Man from Clover Grove and The Photographer, contributing as an associate producer on the latter.

Milligan left behind his wife, Kerry Milligan, and godchildren Andee Solis, Hilary Williams and Spencer Williams.
