Nick Reiner dubbed ‘entitled’ as he reportedly ‘wanted a life that didn’t exist’
Nick Reiner, the son of actor-director Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner, has been described as “entitled” by a family insider.
The 32-year-old, who faced long-term struggles with addiction, reportedly wanted to “live a life that didn’t exist.”
Now charged with killing his parents, he had entered rehab more than 18 times by age 22.
Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on December 14. Nick was arrested the same night.
He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
At his December 17 court appearance, his lawyer did not enter a plea. The arraignment will continue on January 7.
A source close to the family also told People that Rob and Michele felt “enormous guilt” over their inability to help Nick fully turn his life around.
In 2015, Nick co-wrote Being Charlie, a film based on his struggles, which Rob directed, hoping it would build his confidence and provide a sense of direction.
Nick also once spoke about the lack of identity inflicted by drug abuse and growing up in the shadow of his famous father and grandfather, Carl Reiner, who died in 2020.
The Reiners, who had two other children, Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, were described as a tight-knit family who tried everything to support Nick through his difficulties. Rob also had a daughter, Tracy, 61, from a previous relationship.
The case remains under investigation as legal proceedings continue.
