Akansha Ranjan Kapoor kicked off her wedding festivities in Mumbai on July 10, and her closest friends showed up dressed for the occasion in the best possible way, dressed to the nines. Our favourite looks though came from Bollywood’s favourite starlets, Alia Bhatt and Janhvi Kapoor.
Alia Bhatt
Alia arrived at the event in a deep purple silk saree with silver brocade work running through it in delicate floral patterns. However, rather than draping the pallu the conventional way over one shoulder, she let it fall her arm like a loose stole, while the pleats stayed crisply pinned at the front. It’s a small adjustment that changed the entire outfit.
The blouse is where the look’s experimentation shone brightest. Alia wore a strapless, cropped blouse in matching deep purple, with a plunging sweetheart neckline and a cut-out detail at the centre held together with embellished stitching.
She kept the rest of the styling controlled: a zardozi-embroidered purple potli bag, peep-toe wedges, a diamond choker, matching statement rings and diamond earrings. Her hair was pulled back into a sleek, twisted bun, and the makeup stayed minimal with dewy base and glossy pink lips. She was later seen shaking a leg during the celebrations too!
Janhvi Kapoor
Janhvi went in a completely different direction, choosing a golden ensemble with three distinct pieces – a skirt, a fitted blouse, and a cape. The skirt is where the craftsmanship really shows: asymmetrical pleating that creates a waterfall effect at the front, while the back shifts into a dhoti-style drape. The blouse leans bodycon, as has been her look for a while now, with a scoop neckline and a cropped hem that shows off her midriff.
But the cape was the real showstopper. Finished with hundreds of tassels along the hem, cut with an open front and shawl-like silk lapels, and running the full length of her arms in sleeves, it’s the piece that turns the whole outfit into a modern take on what has been a very traditional silhouette.
Janhvi paired it with a compact golden handbag and peep-toe heels, then went heritage with the jewellery, choosing a gold choker, matching jhumkis and statement rings to anchor the look. Her hair was slicked into a neat braid, and her makeup stayed warm throughout: feathered brows, gold eyeshadow, a soft flush and a glossy mocha-brown lip.
