With a surge in passenger movement during the summer holiday season, Southern Railway has decided to augment train capacity by adding extra coaches on several key routes. The move aims to ease overcrowding and provide a more comfortable travel experience for passengers.

The Chennai Central-Thiruvananthapuram AC Superfast Express (22207) will operate with two additional AC three-tier coaches from March 31 to May 5. On the return journey (22208), these extra coaches will be available from April 1 to May 6.

On the Tirupati route, the Sapthagiri Express (16053-16054) will run with an additional chair car (CC) coach from March 30 to June 2. Similarly, train numbers 16057-16058 will also be equipped with extra seating capacity during the same period.

The Chennai-Erode Yercaud Express (22649) will have one extra sleeper coach attached from April 1 to June 4. Its return service (22650) will offer the same facility from March 29 to June 1.

In addition, extra coaches are being introduced on the Chennai-Charlapalli and Rameswaram-Mangalore Central routes. Railway officials stated that this initiative is expected to address ticket shortages and ensure smoother, more convenient travel for passengers during the peak season.
