Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is celebrated with great joy by millions worldwide. It is not only one of the biggest festivals of the Hindus but also brings together people of other religions. Deepawali falls during the seasonal transition from autumn to winter, in the month of Kartik (October-November).
This year, Diwali sees split celebrations on October 31 and November 1 as the Amavasya Tithi begins at 3:52 pm on October 31 and ends at 6:16 pm on November 1.

According to astrologer Vinod Soni Pauddar, this year Amavasya Tithi will begin on October 31 at 2:40 PM and will last until the morning of November 1.
As per him, people should perform Diwali Puja on October 31, which is the Pradoshvaapini Amavasya Tithi. According to Shastra Samvat, celebrating Diwali on November 1 is not considered auspicious.

Moong Dal Sabudana Kheer
- Ingredients: Moong dal, sabudana, milk, sugar, cardamom, saffron and nuts.
- Preparation: Cook moong dal and sabudana in milk over medium flame. Then add sugar, cardamom and saffron to it.
Boondi Laddu
- Ingredients: Chickpea flour, sugar syrup and ghee.
- Preparation: Deep-fry boondi (small chickpea flour balls) and then soak in sugar syrup. When the mixture is still slightly warm, form ladoo.
Gur Halwa
- Ingredients: Gur (jaggery), atta (wheat flour), besan (chickpea flour) ghee and milk.
- Preparation: Mix gur, atta, besan and ghee in milk. Cook it till it turns brown and all the milk is absorbed.
Phirni
- Ingredients: Rice, milk, sugar, cardamom and saffron.
- Preparation: Cook rice in sweetened milk with cardamom and saffron. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens.

- Ingredients: Coconut milk, rice, sugar and cardamom.
- Preparation: Cook rice in coconut milk with sugar and cardamom until it forms a porridge-like consistency.
