A festive home does not always call for a fresh shopping list. Sometimes, the most thoughtful Diwali makeover comes from looking at what you already own. From old sarees and familiar keepsakes to lamps and seasonal flowers, here are four ways to refresh your home without buying new décor.

Give Old Sarees And Dupattas A New Purpose
Have an embroidered dupatta or silk saree tucked away in your cupboard? Drape it over a console, use it as a table runner or dress up plain cushions. Ms Kirti Madan, Creative and Art Director, Mahima Group, suggests bringing heritage textiles into everyday spaces. An old silk saree, an embroidered dupatta, or a handwoven stole can give a familiar room a surprising personality. Whether draped over a console, spread over a dining table or used to adorn a basic cushion, these textiles tell stories of artistry and tradition, adding color, texture and a sense of personal history.

Let Your Existing Lights Set The Mood
Before buying fairy lights, rearrange your lamps and bring out those old diyas. Place them along a windowsill or tuck a string of lights into a glass vessel. As Kirti suggests, softer lighting and gentle shadows can make familiar corners feel festive. A string of lights tucked into an old glass vessel can lend a gentle glow to an overlooked corner.

Give Forgotten Possessions A Fresh Spot
That brass urli, travel souvenir or painting you barely notice anymore deserves a second look. Move it to another wall, group brassware on a wooden tray or give a cherished ceramic piece centre stage. Sometimes, a simple change of placement is all a room needs.

Bring In Flowers And Foliage
You do not need elaborate arrangements to make a room feel festive. Place marigolds in an old brass vessel, jasmine in a bowl or leafy branches in a ceramic pot. Mix heights and textures, and let the flowers spill naturally. A little greenery can change the entire feel of a space.
