6 out of 10 women said they usually receive the highest number of DMs this festive season
With the festival season coming to a brief pause with Diwali, India’s most popular dating app, QuackQuack, conducted an extensive analysis of data collected from user activities during the month of October and ran an online survey to find out the most exciting trends of this season and forecast the trends to expect in the coming months. The app experienced a massive surge in traffic- more than 25% uprise in chats and 40% in local matches- in the past 2 months.
Ravi Mittal, founder and CEO, QuackQuack commented, “We are expecting even more traffic in the coming months- with more festivities on its way and the year wrapping up, daters are always in a rush to find the perfect match around this time of the year. Last month, we also saw some interesting trends; for instance, users indulging in conversations more than usual, the highest number of profile revamps and our study shows there are some more unique trends yet to make their debut.”
11,000 urban and suburban users aged 20 to 35, from across the country participated in the online survey. Respondents came from various backgrounds, with the majority working in the healthcare, IT, sales and marketing, and finance sectors and a small portion of students and job seekers. The survey report shows Festive Flirting, Saree Snaps, Patakha Profiles, and more as the key trends.
Festive Flirting
The app reported a rise in flirtatious interaction and message exchange with festive emojis like diya, crackers, sweets, etc., among matches in the last one month. Backing their report, more than 41% of survey participants between 20 and 28 disclosed indulging in more casual conversation during the festive season than the rest of the year. A female user from Gurugram said, “It’s fun to engage in lighthearted conversation during this season. But, I have noticed that things start getting intense during the post-Diwali and pre-Christmas periods. Most people start rushing to connect and start the year with someone special.”
Shiney new festive profiles
32% of men and women from urban and suburban locations revamped their profiles with festive-themed bios and profile pictures in ethnic attires. 3 out of 5 of these users reported receiving more match requests and compliments after giving their dating profiles a festive update. Ashutosh (30) from Navi Mumbai said, “I changed my bio to Let’s exchange notes on how to stop binging on sweets this Diwali, and I have received more messages than ever.”
The Saree Snaps trend stole the limelight this month, with the app reporting a 15% uptick in female users updating their profiles with photos in sarees and other ethnic outfits this festive season. Men did not lag behind, with 24% of male users switching their display images to something more festive. Bella (28) said, “I got more likes once I changed my Profile picture from a photo in Western wear to a one in saree. People are more drawn to their own culture and tradition during this time of the year.”
Diwali DMs
Over 39% of male over 30 users sent their first message to new matches in the last week of October. Ayan from Bangalore commented, “I capitalized on the festive mood to start a conversation with my match. What plans this Diwali or Happy Diwali works like a charm.”
6 out of 10 women said they usually receive the highest number of DMs this festive season; according to the survey, the interactions start out more naturally, and wishing Happy Diwali is the perfect excuse to reach out to a match.
