For decades, the public face of Jeffrey Epstein’s personal life was Ghislaine Maxwell – the British socialite now serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking. But behind the iron gates of his Palm Beach mansion and the high walls of his Manhattan townhouse, Epstein maintained a revolving door of “girlfriends” that blurred the lines between romantic partners, employees, and victims.

From the young women he groomed in the 1990s to the woman who was the last person to speak to him before his death, Epstein’s relationships were defined by power, control, and a disturbing level of surveillance.

The Early Years: Recruitment and Control

In the mid-1990s, Epstein’s “relationships” often began under the guise of mentorship. Reports from the Guardian and CBS News highlight victims like Maria and Annie Farmer. Annie was just 16 when she was lured to Epstein’s New Mexico ranch, believing he was interested in her “educational future.”

Many of these young women, some as young as 14, were introduced to a “weird sick family” dynamic where Maxwell acted as a primary girlfriend while simultaneously grooming others. According to testimony from the Maxwell trial, the goal was often to find girls who “looked young” to satisfy Epstein’s predilections, often maintaining them in a state of financial dependence.

The Dubin Family

Perhaps the most “unsettling” chapter of Epstein’s social life involves his connection to Celina Dubin, the daughter of billionaire hedge fund manager Glenn Dubin and former Miss Sweden, Dr. Eva Andersson-Dubin. Eva had dated Epstein in the 1980s, but the relationship evolved into a decades-long family friendship where Celina grew up calling the convicted pedophile “Uncle Jeff.”

According to reports from Business Insider and Vanity Fair, Epstein’s obsession with the young Dubin was overt; he reportedly told associates that if he were ever to marry, it would be to Celina (then 19). Even more disturbing are the financial ties: in 2014, Epstein reportedly made Celina the beneficiary of a trust intended to inherit his fortune, including his private Caribbean island. While her parents claim they were unaware of this arrangement, newly released records from the U.S. Department of Justice paint a chilling picture of the family’s proximity to Epstein.

Despite his 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor, Eva Dubin famously wrote to Epstein’s probation officer in 2009 stating she was “100% comfortable” with him being around her children. In a 2010 email highlighted in the recent “Epstein Files” cache, Eva invited Epstein to visit while a 15-year-old Celina had five friends over, an invitation sent years after he was a registered sex offender.

‘The Inspector’: The Final Girlfriend

After Epstein’s 2008 conviction in Florida for procuring a minor for prostitution, his social circle shifted, but his patterns remained. It was during this period, around 2010, that he met Karyna Shuliak, a dentist originally from Belarus.

Shuliak would become the most enduring and mysterious figure in his final decade. While Epstein continued to associate with high-profile figures, Shuliak lived a largely private life, often residing at his properties in Palm Beach and New York.

As the walls began to close in on Epstein leading up to his 2019 arrest, his relationship with Shuliak intensified. Reports from The Sun and Hindustan Times reveal that Shuliak earned the nickname “The Inspector” among Epstein’s staff.

The moniker stemmed from her “compulsive tendency” to monitor Epstein’s movements and the activities of those around him.

Despite the age gap, she was in her early 30s while he was 66, their bond was deeply transactional and legally complex. Documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice in early 2026 show that just two days before his death, Epstein drafted a will that positioned Shuliak as his primary heir.

Epstein’s Will

According to reports, Epstein’s final intentions for Shuliak were staggering:

  • The Fortune: He sought to leave her $100 million ($50 million in a lump sum and $50 million in a trust).
  • The Jewelry: A 33-carat diamond ring, which Epstein noted in a handwritten addendum was given “in contemplation of marriage.”
  • The Real Estate: The intended inheritance included his infamous Little St. James island, his New Mexico ranch, and his $51 million Manhattan townhouse.
  • Shuliak was the last person to speak with Epstein on the phone (a 15-minute call on August 10, 2019) just hours before he was found dead in his jail cell. According to sources cited by the news outlets, she did not believe he sounded suicidal at the time.

Where Is She Now?

Today, Karyna Shuliak remains a ghost-like figure. Though she has been spotted on Fifth Avenue in recent years, she has largely avoided the media spotlight. Her role as the intended beneficiary of a sex trafficker’s estate continues to be a point of legal contention, as the victims of Epstein’s crimes continue to seek restitution from the same pool of assets once promised to ‘The Inspector.’
