Just days after Chinese actress Zhang Jingyi grabbed eyeballs for carrying a bag that looked like a yellow plastic trash bag, the internet has found another reason to obsess over it.

A viral reel doing the rounds shows a luxury store owner in Turkey presenting what looks like… a trash bag. But wait — not just any trash bag. This is allegedly a ₹1.5 lakh ($1,790) pouch from Balenciaga. If you thought fashion couldn’t get any more bizarre, the internet has just handed you a shiny (or should we say crinkly?) new reason to debate it.

Handled delicately with gloves, as though it were a priceless artifact, the bright yellow bag is introduced with theatrical reverence. The user on X, Dr. Jebra Faushay, captions the video with a cheeky message: “This luxury bag shop in Turkey demonstrates the beauty of a $1790 Balenciaga pouch. It comes in yellow, is quite versatile, and I believe it’s water proof. “I’d be willing to pay ten cents for it, what about you?”

And just like that, the internet had its next viral obsession.

At first glance, the bag looks almost identical to a crinkled plastic garbage bag. But that’s exactly the point.

The intentionally minimalist (and controversial) design has sparked massive debate online. But the best are the comments, which run the gamut. “I’ll be waiting for a bad knockoff to come out and getting it for free. I’m cheap,” wrote on user.

Another chimed in: “I like that he is wearing white gloves so he won’t soil the bag.” “I have a bag full of them,” writes another. And then Indians joined the chat. “Here in India we get these bags for free when we buy fruit meat vegetable,” wrote a user, with multiple images of vegetables wrapped in plastic bags.

This isn’t the first time Balenciaga has allegedly turned something ordinary into a high-fashion piece. And that’s exactly why it works. It has virality, and well, for luxury enthusiasts, it could certainly be a conversation starter. But would you pay INR 1.5 Lakh for it?
