Olympian figure skater Alysa Liu, who was just announced as Louis Vuitton’s new house ambassador, spoke to ELLE about the surreal news and her personal taste in fashion.

Liu is quickly making a name for herself in the fashion world. On the morning of the 2026 Met Gala, she was named Louis Vuitton’s newest house ambassador—just months after capturing global attention with her gold medal win at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics. She also gained popularity on social media for her performance to “Stateside” by PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson, which became a stepping stone in showcasing her personality beyond the ice.

“It’s honestly surreal to be a house ambassador for Louis Vuitton”, she told ELLE. “It’s truly an honor and a privilege, especially for a figure skater, to be recognized in this way, and I take much pride in that”.

The star went on to discuss her personal taste in fashion and the journey that led her to Louis Vuitton. “I don’t like boxing myself in”, she said, referring to her halo hair and viral smiley piercing, highlighting her signature style.

She added that her aesthetic is very “eclectic.”

“My personal style has evolved over the years naturally, as I’ve gotten older, but mostly because I’m coming back into myself”. Liu shared.

“I know what I like and what makes me feel good, but because I’m still evolving, it’s fun to leave room for the unexpected and the discovery part of my personality. “

The star made her first major fashion appearance at Paris Fashion Week in March, attending Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2026 show alongside stars like Zendaya, Lisa, and Ana de Armas.

“Life is really about connection, and I feel that Louis Vuitton has really made me feel included. It’s a really empowering feeling to be a part of something so artistic”, she said.

Liu also reflected on a nostalgic memory from her childhood, “When I was 11, at a competition in LA, I saw that one of my competitors had a mini Louis Vuitton backpack with the classic logo-ed up monogram. I remember thinking to myself, ‘That’s so cute!’”

To conclude, Liu emphasised that she sees fashion becoming an even bigger part of her life, “I see fashion like I see my art [and] figure skating as a form of self-expression. I don’t think of the two worlds as separate. I love to exercise self-expression in everything I do! Everything I choose to do or wear is just an extension of myself, and that’s what I love sharing. There is nothing to balance as long as I’m just being myself”.

Liu’s return to figure skating has also been defined by her rejection of toxic and restrictive expectations often imposed on elite athletes. She has spoken openly about prioritising her mental and physical health, returning to the sport with a supportive team that respects her decisions, rather than pushing harmful practices in pursuit of victory.
