Sonam Kapoor Pairs An Anavila Kurta And Cape With Her Mother’s Jewels For Diwali
Sonam Kapoor has never been one to play it safe with fashion. Whether she is making a case for couture on the red carpet or giving traditional Indian wear an unexpected spin, the actor has built a style identity around considered choices, a love for craftsmanship and an instinct for putting pieces together in ways that feel her own. Her Diwali look this year is no exception. Instead of reaching for a heavily embellished lehenga or a predictable festive silhouette, Sonam chose a custom white angrakha by Anavila, layered it with her mother Sunita Kapoor’s jewellery and added a bright pink potli for a touch of colour.
The outfit, designed by Anavila, takes the familiar kurta silhouette in a more contemporary direction. Cut in white fabric, the dress features an overlapping front and a fluid, floor-length fall. A cape in matching fabric, with full sleeves, adds another layer to the ensemble. Delicate pink floral embroidery traces the edges and spreads across the fabric, making it a perfect fall ensemble.
The jewellery is where the drama lies. Sonam wore pieces from her mother Sunita Kapoor’s collection, including a multi-strand pearl haar that sits in layers across her neckline, accentuated by gold centrepieces that have pops of green stones. The elaborate polki and pearl jhumkas, frame her face, and she adds a pair of polki rings to her stack as well.
She added another playful detail with a small potli bag in bright fuchsia pink and gold. On her feet were the Fireflies Dance Juttis by Fizzy Goblet. She tied up her hair in a half ponytail with beautiful pink and white flowers adorning the look. She kept her makeup simple, opting for a tint of pink on the cheeks and light kohl-rimmed eyes.
Sharing the photograph, Sonam paired her Diwali greeting with a sweet note: “Diwali lights, a little bit of sparkle, and the man who still makes me blush,” tagging her husband, Anand Ahuja.
