The Cruise season just kicked off with a bang, and Matthieu Blazy’s debut in Biarritz is officially all anyone can talk about. While the front row was packed with heavyweights like Nicole Kidman, A$AP Rocky, and Sofia Coppola, the real star of the show wasn’t a person—it was a missing sole.

Blazy is nudging Chanel toward a new era of “couture chaos,” but he’s gone and done the unthinkable: The non-shoe. He has turned “non-functional” into the ultimate luxury. He’s given the elite a reason to wear Chanel even when they’re essentially barefoot.

‘Where Is The Rest Of The Shoe?’

You don’t need to be a fashion editor to notice the elephant in the room (or the lack of leather on the floor). Several looks floated down the runway featuring “shoes” that were essentially just a quarter of a sole and some chic ribbons.

The internet, predictably, is losing its mind. The “sole-less” flat has left everyone squinting at their screens in a mix of horror and hilarity.

“Where is the rest of the shoe? I am confused,” asked one Instagram user. Another chimed in: “I’m not paying $800 to walk barefoot.”

Some are calling it a high-end recession indicator, while others are convinced it’s a very late (and very expensive) April Fool’s joke. A classic Devil Wears Prada deep cut: “As Miranda Priestly would say: did you fall down and smack your little head on the pavement?”

The polarising look was shared by The Cut also and attracted a heated debate. “DON’T piss me off,” wrote a user while another suggested: “Can someone please wear these on the NYC streets and then down into the subway and on the train? Please film feet when you get home, please.”

Our favourite though was: “Chanel really said, ‘Let them eat pavement,’.”
