Usman Qadir relocates to Australia for better cricket future | The Express Tribune
Leg spinner Usman Qadir has moved to New South Wales, Australia, in pursuit of new opportunities after retiring from Pakistan cricket in October 2024, according to local media reports.
Currently playing for Hawkesbury Cricket Club in Sydney, the 31-year-old is determined to carve out a new path for himself in the cricketing world.
Reflecting on his retirement at the time, Qadir shared on social media, “It has been an immense honour to represent my country. I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way.”
Qadir’s career with the Pakistan national team was marked by flashes of brilliance. His debut in 2020 during a T20I series against Zimbabwe was impressive, as he claimed eight wickets for 60 runs across three matches and earned the Player of the Series title.
For a time, Usman Qadir served as Pakistan’s leading leg spinner, even replacing Shadab Khan in the T20I side. However, inconsistency and off-field challenges hindered his progress.
Before committing to Pakistan cricket, Qadir was on track to represent Australia. He played for Western Australia and appeared in the Big Bash League for Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder, even earning a place in Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI.
Despite these early ties to Australia, Qadir’s time there was not without difficulty, including disciplinary concerns. In 2019, following the sudden passing of his father, the legendary Abdul Qadir, Usman made the decision to join Pakistan’s squad for a series in Australia under then-head coach Misbah-ul-Haq.
Abdul Qadir, known for his exceptional leg-spin bowling, was a constant source of inspiration for Usman’s career. However, Usman’s journey with the Pakistan team was not without its struggles.
Now, with his time in Pakistan behind him, Usman has relocated to Australia with hopes of rebuilding his career. “Cricket is my livelihood, and I have come to Australia with a clear plan for my future,” he explained. “I am hopeful and determined that I will get good opportunities moving forward.”
Sources suggest that Usman Qadir’s family is expected to join him soon, as he works towards making his name in Australian cricket.
