PARIS — French voters are going to the polls on Sunday for the first round of snap legislative elections that could bring a far-right government to power just weeks before the opening of the Paris Olympics.

The National Rally, guided by Marine Le Pen and her protégé, Jordan Bardella, hopes to win an outright majority in the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament. Bardella, 28, would replace Gabriel Attal as prime minister and centrist President Emmanuel Macron would be forced to share power. Macron’s coalition ranks third in the polls, behind the National Rally and a united left-wing bloc.
