Shalini Pandey Says, ‘I Love Desi Dogs’; Wants People To Adopt, Not Shop

Actor Shalini Pandey sported a ‘I love desi dogs’ t-shirt to celebrate her campaign Adopt, Don’t Shop with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals India (PETA India) in Mumbai.

Shalini is part of a long list of Bollywood celebrities such as Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Raveena Tandon, Diana Penty, and Dino Morea among others, who have promoted dog or cat adoption with PETA India.

Compassionate and full of life, Shalini took us down memory lane on how she met her indie dog, Bir she rescued from Himachal back in 2021. So, this campaign and the message behind it is extremely special to Shalini.

Shalini Pandey’s Adopt, Don’t Shop PETA India Campaign

When News18 asked Shalini Pandey what she loves most about indie dogs, Shalini smiles and says, “They are so smart, intelligent and curious.”

Speaking about the campaign, Shalini says, “The campaign is about ‘Adopt, Don’t Shop’ and like how my T-shirt says ‘I love desi dogs’ and I do absolutely believe in that. The idea of this whole campaign is to get people to pause and think before getting a companion, to be open to the idea of adopting an indie because they are absolutely beautiful. I have an indie, Bir and I say it with experience, they are intelligent and adaptable.”

Bir now makes regular appearances alongside Shalini on her Instagram. “My dog, Bir, when I play with her, she is so aware if she is hurting me or not. She is so compassionate and sensitive and this is something we don’t understand about them,” expresses Shalini.

Shalini further adds, “I want people to know that desi dogs are just adorable, curious li’l babies. And once they see that you are giving them love, they will give you so much love back that you are not ready for. That’s why it was so important for me to be associated with the campaign for PETA and I am very grateful that I am part of this because I absolutely believe in it.”

Shalini’s Message On The Supreme Court Of India’s Decision

Shalini Pandey voices her opinion on The Supreme Court Of India’s decision of removal of stray dogs and relocation to shelters. “It is really cruel and disturbing to know that because they are a part of our society, they are Indians. It is wrong to think that once we remove them everything will be alright. I don’t think that’s how humanity and nature works. We need to work towards solutions and not towards eradication of them. That’s absolutely cruel,” expresses Shalini Pandey.
