Olivia Wilde opened up about how becoming a director changed her view on Hollywood’s beauty standards.
During a recent sit down with Vogue, Wilde admitted that female actors in the industry face pressure due to aging.
“It’s interesting because as a director, I now am constantly searching for actresses who can still move their faces, and it’s not easy,” she told the outlet.
And in her opinion, it’s not the actors’ fault who get the work done, it’s the entertainment industry’s too-high beauty standards.
“I am a product of the same machine. I am under the same pressures. I get it,” she shared, noting that she hopes for less haunting beauty treatments by the industry in the future.
“There’s something so medieval about a lot of these things,” Wilde added.
She expressed her utter disbelief at how people call out celebrities due to aging, admitting it’s a battle that actors could never win.
“I’ve had the thing of people being like, ‘She looks old and dead and awful.’ And you’re like, ‘Fuck! How do you win? It’s impossible.'”
Wilde is not the only actress who voiced her concern over the beauty standards women face in showbiz. Back in June 2025, Carrie Coon said that she gets typecast to play older women just because she opted to age naturally.
Despite being in her early 40s, The White Lotus actress told Glamour, “My voice is lower, and I don’t have Botox, so I tend to play older than I am.”
