Global cryptocurrency exchange giant Coinbase has officially rolled out full-fledged trading services for retail investors in India with direct Indian Rupee (INR) support, allowing users to deposit and withdraw funds directly through their bank accounts.

The move eliminates the need for peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions and other workarounds that many Indian crypto investors had been relying on to access global cryptocurrency markets.

Announcing the launch, Coinbase said the company has been steadily expanding its presence in India over the past few years through investments, developer grants and ecosystem-building initiatives.

“We’ve invested meaningfully in the Indian ecosystem. Through Base, our Ethereum Layer 2 network, we’ve supported thousands of builders and startups in the country. Today, we’re taking the next step by making Coinbase fully accessible to Indian retail traders with direct INR support,” the company said.

What Indian Users Can Do Now

With the launch of INR rails, Indian customers can now transfer money directly from their bank accounts via the Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) and withdraw funds back to their bank accounts without relying on intermediaries.

Users will have access to spot trading across multiple crypto assets as well as perpetual futures contracts linked to major cryptocurrencies.

Coinbase said it has also created dedicated rupee order books for Indian traders, while continuing to provide access to liquidity available on its global exchange platform.

For advanced traders, the platform offers professional-grade tools through Coinbase Advanced, including institutional-standard APIs and integrated TradingView charts for technical analysis.

How To Start Trading On Coinbase

New users can create an account on Coinbase and fund it directly using INR through IMPS. Existing Coinbase customers in India will receive INR support in phases as the feature is rolled out.

Once funds are added, users can buy and sell cryptocurrencies in spot and futures markets and withdraw proceeds directly to their bank accounts.

What Are The Charges?

Coinbase said users will not be charged any fee for depositing Indian Rupees on the platform. According to the company, trading fees on Coinbase Advanced are broadly in line with those charged by major Indian crypto exchanges.

The exchange also highlighted that deeper global liquidity can help reduce trading costs through tighter spreads and lower slippage, particularly for high-volume traders.

Coinbase’s Regulatory Status In India

Coinbase said it is registered with India’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU-IND) and complies with all applicable Indian regulations, including tax-related requirements such as Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on virtual digital asset transactions.

“We registered with FIU-IND and comply with all Indian taxation law requirements because we’re here for the long term,” the company said.

The launch marks a significant development for India’s crypto ecosystem, giving retail investors direct access to one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges through regulated rupee payment channels.
