Will ABC ‘fire’ Jimmy Kimmel over Melania joke and under Trump pressure?
Jimmy Kimmel was under fire from the U.S. president Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, for making a joke about the latter, calling her an “expectant widow”.
Two days later, a gunman attacked at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where the pair were present but remained unhurt.
Following the incident, the First Lady took to X to slam the late-night host for what she called a corrosive remark.
“Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. His monologue about my family isn’t comedy — his words are corrosive and deepen the political sickness within America.”
“Enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand. People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate,” she penned.
Her husband, Trump, fully agreed.
Echoing her sentiment, the president took to Truth Social to blast Kimmel and demand that ABC fire him.
However, the network, according to a Page Six report, stood behind the late-night host.
“ABC is sticking by” the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host and don’t plan to suspend him, fire him or cancel the show,” the insider shared, adding, “It’s back to taping per usual. They’re moving on.”
Notwithstanding the support, the pressure seemingly is on the network after the US Federal Communications Commission is going for an early review of Disney – the parent company of ABC – license.
