For Disney, the Zootopia franchise became a gold mine, as its sequel dethrones Frozen 2 to become the studio’s highest-grossing animated movie.
At the global box office, the animated film stands at $1.46 billion, with a major chunk, $1.13 billion, coming from overseas, particularly China.
Strong numbers from the international box office have propelled the movie to the $1 billion milestone in just 17 days.
In the film, Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman reprise their roles as Judy Hopps, the rabbit, and Nick Wilde, the clever fox.
But Zootopia 2 is not the only Disney film doing strong business. Avatar: Fire and Ash by James Cameron is another one.
The film has so far soared to $750 million globally as its immersive universe, complex characters, and insightful story are fueling the third installment to reach the coveted $1 billion mark.
