Popular social media influencer and solo traveller, Maya Rey, took to Instagram to share in a recent clip all the things that amazed her about solo travelling in India. The video with over a million views and more than 20,400 likes continues to do rounds on the platform, gathering positive reactions and appreciations from the locals. Here’s her list of 5 things about solo travelling in India that left her stunned.

1. Supportive Locals: She mentions that the locals presented a sense of attentiveness and were quick to reach out with any kind of help or guidance she needed. She acknowledges the fact that people do often stare, but she also “never felt more taken care of.”

2. Everyone Speaks English: Her next point highlights the universal use of English throughout the country, which made her life way easier as ordering food, transportation, and normal daily life conversations were less of a hassle than she anticipated.

3. Culture and Personal Conversations: Another thing that came as a shock for Maya was the avoidance of small talk by the locals as they moved straight to questions about marital status, income, age and personal life.

4. Local Tourism: She pointed out the abundance of local tourists travelling in the country, also more in number than in any other country she has visited. She highlighted how domestic tourism is highly bustling in India, with locals found in buses, trains and shared autos.

5. Food: The influencer also shared on her Instagram: “I haven’t been able to find anything as tasty ever since I left beautiful India.” She appreciated the taste and authenticity of Indian cuisine while mentioning how the Indian food in her own country “does not compare” to what is available in India, and hopes to experience the Indian flavours again.
