Thailand’s famed island paradise is now just a direct flight away for Bengaluru travellers. Air India Express has inaugurated non-stop services to Phuket, further strengthening international connectivity from India to key leisure destinations across Southeast Asia.

According to a report in Moneycontrol, the inaugural flight on the Bengaluru-Phuket route departed on June 1, officially commencing operations on the new service. The route will operate four times a week, offering passengers a convenient nonstop travel option to Thailand’s largest island and one of the region’s most popular tourist hotspots.

Direct Access To A Major Tourist Destination

Phuket has long been a favourite destination among Indian travellers, attracting visitors with its picturesque beaches, vibrant nightlife, bustling street markets, luxury resorts and cultural landmarks. The introduction of direct flights is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve accessibility for tourists seeking a holiday in southern Thailand.

The new service also complements Air India Express’ existing operations between Bengaluru and Bangkok. The airline had launched daily flights on the Bengaluru-Bangkok sector in October last year, and the addition of Phuket further strengthens its presence in the Thai market.

Industry observers believe the new route could help drive tourism traffic in both directions by making travel more seamless and convenient for holidaymakers, families and leisure travellers.

Part Of A Wider International Expansion Strategy

The launch comes as Air India Express continues to expand its international network, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia and the Middle East. As part of this strategy, the airline has recently resumed services to Qatar and Bahrain after a gap, while also planning to increase connectivity to several cities across the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

The expansion reflects growing demand for international travel from Indian cities and forms part of the carrier’s broader plan to improve access to high-demand destinations across the region.

Bengaluru Emerging As A Key Hub

Bengaluru has become one of Air India Express’ most important operational centres. The airline currently operates nearly 500 flights every week from the city, connecting passengers to 31 domestic destinations and eight international locations.

According to the airline, the introduction of the Phuket service aligns with its objective of enhancing overseas connectivity from major Indian metropolitan centres while catering to rising demand for leisure travel.

With international travel continuing to recover and outbound tourism from India witnessing steady growth, the Bengaluru-Phuket route is expected to attract strong passenger interest and further reinforce Air India Express’ position in the regional aviation market.
