For decades, Haldiram’s has been one of those unmistakably Indian brands that travelled far beyond the country through packets of bhujia, boxes of soan papdi and festive tins of kaju katli carried by families across the world. Now, the iconic snacks and sweets giant is taking a much bigger step onto the global stage.

This summer, Haldiram’s is set to open its first-ever full-service restaurant in the UK, bringing Indian street food, chaats, curries and desserts to the heart of London.

The 3,000 square-foot restaurant is set to launch in Leicester Square in June 2026, marking a major international expansion for the nearly 90-year-old Indian food brand. While Haldiram’s products are already stocked in supermarkets across several countries, this will be the company’s first dedicated dine-in restaurant in the UK market.

A Taste Of India In The Middle Of London

The new outlet plans to showcase dishes inspired by food traditions from different parts of India. The menu is expected to include popular comfort foods such as choley bhature, pao bhaji and raj kachori, alongside a wide range of chaats and desserts.

The company is also introducing UK-exclusive fusion desserts, designed specifically for local audiences while still keeping Indian flavours at the centre of the experience.

Apart from the restaurant space, the outlet will feature a sweets and retail counter where customers can buy packaged snacks, mithai and takeaway products. Some of these offerings are being developed exclusively for the UK market.

The move signals a shift in how Indian food brands are positioning themselves internationally — not just as packaged snack labels on supermarket shelves, but as full-fledged dining experiences.

Why Haldiram’s Chose London

According to Rhea Agarwal, a third-generation member of the founding family leading the company’s UK and European expansion, London was an obvious choice for the brand’s first UK restaurant.

With its large South Asian population and growing interest in regional Indian cuisine, the city has increasingly become a global hotspot for modern Indian dining.

In recent years, Indian cuisine in London has evolved far beyond the traditional curry-house image, with chefs and restaurants introducing audiences to more regional and street-style flavours.

Agarwal said the aim is to create a space that feels both nostalgic for Indian customers and approachable for a wider international audience discovering Indian street food culture.

The restaurant interiors are expected to combine contemporary design with Indian heritage-inspired details, reflecting the brand’s attempt to fit into London’s competitive casual dining landscape while retaining its roots.

From Snack Counters To Global Dining

Founded in 1937, Haldiram’s has grown from a small namkeen business into one of India’s largest food brands, with operations spanning more than 80 countries. The company already runs hundreds of restaurants across India and the Middle East and has maintained a production facility in Southall, west London, since 2018 to supply sweets and snacks to UK and European markets.

However, the Leicester Square opening represents its biggest international hospitality venture so far.

The launch also comes at a time when Indian cuisine is receiving increasing global recognition, with Indian chefs, regional dishes and street food concepts finding space in mainstream international food culture.
