Actor says social media pages distorted her remarks, urges followers to seek proper context

Actor Hira Khan has responded to the online debate surrounding her recent comments on marriage and gender roles, saying her remarks were misrepresented and taken out of context.

She addressed the controversy through a series of Instagram Stories after social media posts circulated claims about her views on traditional gender expectations in marriage.

Reacting to one such post, Hira wrote, “What is this? I never said it,” rejecting the interpretation being shared online.

She explained that she and her husband do not follow conventional gender roles, noting that both are career-oriented and share household responsibilities equally.

Hira also suggested that translation issues may have contributed to the misunderstanding.

“If the translation of gender roles in Urdu is this, then how is it my fault? This doesn’t make any sense,” she wrote, adding that a remark she made about marriage had been presented in a way that differed from her intended meaning.

Urging followers to be cautious about viral content, Hira criticised social media pages that, in her view, prioritise engagement over accuracy. “Please don’t believe everything these pages say. They are here for some clicks!” she wrote.

In a follow-up Instagram Story, the actor expressed further frustration over the situation, referring to what she saw as the spread of misleading narratives online.

The actor’s response drew support from many social media users, some of whom argued that her original comments had been misunderstood or exaggerated as they circulated across digital platforms.

Hira is known for her roles in television dramas including Aik Lafz Zindagi and Aik Chuban Si.
