Aldi has jumped on the “blind box” trend popularized by the Labubu doll craze, and will offer an assortment of mystery groceries to customers for a limited time in the U.S.

A blind box is a sealed package containing randomly selected items, such as miniature figurines, plushies or accessories. The packaging intentionally keeps the contents hidden so that the consumer is surprised when they open it. Labubu dolls, a collectable character from the Chinese retailer Popmart, went viral last year as fans searched for rare dolls inside the mystery boxes.

The Aldi giveaway will feature four sets of boxes, including the Snack Blind Box, which has a mix of sweet, savory and crunchy treats. The Fiber Blind Box will feature an assortment of gut-friendly staple foods. The third offering is the Protein Blind Box, including high-protein staples and unexpected protein-powered picks. Aldi will end its giveaway with a Mystery Blind Box featuring a surprise mix of its best-selling products.

Shoppers will have a chance to score a blind box at 12 p.m. ET from June 22 through June 25 but only via Aldi’s website.

Tuesday’s limited edition drop sold out in a matter of minutes, according to the special website designed specifically for the blind boxes.

Customers are also urged to keep an eye on Aldi USA’s Instagram account to see which box drops next.

“The ALDI Blind Box taps into the excitement our fans already feel walking our aisles,”  Bridget Kozlowski, Director of Communications at Aldi, said. “With surprise unboxings more popular than ever, this is our way of helping customers discover even more favorites.”

The promotion comes after Aldi announced its plans to expand in the U.S. In January, the company said it would open more than 180 new stores across 31 states in 2026. The expansion will push Aldi closer to its goal of operating 3,200 stores in the U.S. by the end of 2028.

“One in three U.S. households shopped at ALDI this past year, and in 2026 we’re focused on making it even easier for customers to shop our aisles first,” Atty McGrath, CEO at Aldi U.S, said in a statement at the time. “That means bringing ALDI to even more neighborhoods, upgrading our website and planning additional distribution centers to keep our shelves stocked with the products our shoppers love.”

Aldi’s business goals extend beyond 2028, with plans to open more than 50 stores across Denver and Colorado Springs within the next five years. In addition, Aldi is aiming to open 40 stores in Phoenix, Arizona, by the end of 2030.
