With summer vacations around the corner, train travel across India is set to surge once again. To manage the seasonal rush, Indian Railways has rolled out an extensive Summer Special Trains plan for 2026. The goal is to reduce overcrowding, improve ticket availability, and make travel smoother for millions of passengers.

Indian Railways will operate a massive 18,262 trips between April 15 and July 15, 2026. This large-scale rollout is aimed at handling peak travel demand during school holidays, family visits, and tourism season.

Out of the total, 11,294 trips have already been notified through 660 special trains. Passengers can start booking tickets early and avoid last-minute stress. More trains are expected to be announced in phases.

In a parallel move, Indian Railways has also confirmed 908 summer special trains to further manage the rush. These trains will run on high-demand routes, helping distribute passenger load more evenly.

The initiative covers all major railway zones to ensure nationwide connectivity. Top contributors include: Central Railway – 3,082 trips, East Central Railway – 2,711 trips, and North Western Railway – 2,245 trips. Other zones like Northern, Western, and South Central Railways are also playing a key role.

These Summer Special Trains are designed to connect major cities, tourist destinations, and high-demand intercity routes. This ensures smoother travel for people heading home, on vacation, or for work.

One of the biggest advantages is the expected reduction in waiting lists. By adding more trains and increasing available seats, Indian Railways aims to improve chances of getting confirmed tickets.
