From 80s power shoulders to stunning maximalist jewels, here’s all we know about Poonawalla’s latest jaw-dropping archival look

Natasha Poonawalla Combines A 1980s YSL Cubist Jacket With A Real Silver Banarasi Saree
There are fashion people, and then there are fashion people. Natasha Poonawalla is committedly the latter. She has had the eye for archival looks, and this time, she’s turned heads by pairing an ultra-rare vintage jacket from Yves Saint Laurent’s Fall/Winter 1988/89 Rive Gauche collection with a breathtaking real silver zari Banarasi ‘Rangkat’ saree by Jigyam.
The jacket is from the golden era of Monsieur Saint Laurent, and features power shoulders in an electric colour-blocking combination of teal, magenta, and navy. There’s an unmistakable nod to Cubist art in the sharp geometric lines across the ensemble.
Instead of taking the predictable route and pairing the jacket with tailored trousers or a sleek pencil skirt, Natasha went full maximalist. She paired it with a real silver zari Banarasi Rangkat saree by Jigyam. The saree’s jewel-toned floral motifs are a contrast to the geometric bravado of the Saint Laurent above. This is a perfect East-meets-West look.
The jewels, naturally, are not playing it safe either. Pieces by Mehta & Sons and Anjali Bhimrajka pile on with cheerful extravagance. She accessorised the high-neckline look with heavy, multi-layered diamond and gemstone chokers and oversized cascading earrings from Mehta & Sons and Anjali Bhimrajka Jewels. You can also spot a pair of bangles on her hands, one of which also straddles a clutch. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, she finished off her look with a sleek, center-parted bun and a pair of dark sunglasses.
There is no doubt that this is purely Natasha Poonawalla’s territory. She converses with fashion and is adept at pulling threads across decades, continents, and craft traditions, making it all feel like the most natural thing in the world. Who knew an archival Western jacket and a handloom Indian saree would belong together? As Diet Sabya rightly puts it, “Archival pull ho toh aisi.”
