Pezeshkian thanks Iraq, says Iran will never forget historic funeral for Martyr Leader – SUCH TV
President Masoud Pezeshkian has thanked the Iraqi government and people for hosting the funeral ceremonies of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, saying Iranians will never forget the historic scenes of solidarity and support.
In a message posted in Arabic on the social media platform X on Friday, Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude to Iraqi President Nizar Amidi, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, Iraqi officials, religious authorities and the people of Iraq for hosting the body of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
“What took place during the funeral ceremony was a manifestation of your Islamic dignity and Arab nobility. The source of this noble conduct is your love for Imam Ali (AS) and Imam Hussein (AS),” he wrote.
The president added that the martyred Leader had always emphasized the spirit of brotherhood between the governments and peoples of Iran and Iraq.
“The people of Iran will never forget your support and the scenes and moments of this magnificent funeral,” he added.
Pezeshkian also voiced hope that the deep religious, cultural and fraternal bonds between the neighboring countries would further strengthen bilateral relations.
His message came after organizers in Iraq announced that more than 10 million mourners had taken part in funeral processions held in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday.
According to the committee overseeing the ceremonies, the gatherings concluded smoothly and without major security incidents despite the massive crowds.
The bodies of Ayatollah Khamenei and his family members arrived at Najaf International Airport on Tuesday, where they were officially received in a ceremony attended by Pezeshkian and PM al-Zaidi before being taken to the holy cities.
The funeral later concluded in Mashhad after passing through Tehran, Qom, Najaf and Karbala during six days of mourning. The bodies were laid to rest on Thursday at the Shrine of Imam Reza (AS).
Millions of mourners packed the streets of Mashhad for the final farewell, following earlier ceremonies attended by political leaders from more than 45 countries and religious scholars from over 90 nations.
According to official estimates cited by Fars News Agency, between 41 million and 43 million people participated in the funeral rites across the five cities, making them the largest of their kind in the world’s modern history.
