Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children, Zahara and Maddox, have taken another legal step to remove “Pitt” from their last names.
Court documents reveal that 21-year-old Zahara has been publishing a legal notice in the Los Angeles Daily Journal once a week for four weeks, per Page Six.
The notices appeared on June 16, June 23, June 30, and July 7. Under California law, publishing the notice in a newspaper is required before a legal name change can be approved.
Anyone who wants to object to the request must submit a written response before the court hearing. Zahara’s hearing is scheduled for Sept. 28. If no objections are filed, a judge may approve the change.
Court records also show that 24-year-old Maddox completed the same requirement. His notices were published on June 10, June 17, June 24, and July 1. He filed to change his name from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie, listing the reason as “personal.”
Last month, Zahara also filed to legally change her name to Zahara Jolie. Earlier this year, she introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie during her graduation ceremony at Spelman College.
Several of the former couple’s children have already stopped using the Pitt surname publicly. Their daughter Vivienne was listed as Vivienne Jolie in the Playbill for the Broadway production of The Outsiders, while Shiloh legally removed Pitt from her last name after turning 18.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie share six children, including Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne. The couple separated in 2016.
Reports have said that most of their children have grown distant from Pitt, although Pax is still said to have a close relationship with his father’s family.
