Duane Betts has opened up about how he felt working on his new song, which is a tribute to his late father Dickey Betts.

For those unaware, Dickey passed away at the age of 80 on April 18, 2024. The celebrated American guitarist and vocalist, whose cause of death was cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), was surrounded by his family at the time of his death at his home in Osprey, Fla.

On the second death anniversary of his father and the member of the legendary Allman Brothers Band, Duane revealed to PEOPLE magazine that he is working on a solo track titled Heartache.

The 48-year-old American guitarist and singer-songwriter told the outlet that it is a small effort to pay homage to his father, who gave his whole life to music. Also, Heartache comes from a place of recognition and healing, as his father’s death is the biggest loss for him.

Voicing his thoughts, he said, “Heartache is obviously a deeply personal song to me. It’s the most personal song that I’ve ever written.”

“It was written on the heels of my father’s passing… it’s the experience of me losing my father and coming through that and out the other side,” Duane explained.

Notably, the Raining Inside crooner also brought the energy of many people he has bid farewell to over the years in the song.

He quipped, “Once you get further down the road, you realize… it’s about all of them. It’s about my dad, it’s about my friends — it’s about all my loved ones that I’ve lost.”

It is pertinent to mention that Duane Betts’ song Heartache, which is part of his full-length project, has been released.
