Jane Seymour says she hopes to inspire women over 50 to embrace new opportunities and enjoy life, no matter their age.
The 75-year-old actress was speaking at Fanboy Expo Knoxville in Tennessee recently, where she reflected on her career alongside her former Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman co-star Joe Lando.
During the event, she referenced her role in the mystery series Harry Wild, in which she plays Harry Wild, a retired professor who becomes an amateur detective.
“Having Harry Wild at this time of my life is just huge for me, to play a woman of a certain age who’s not decided to go live under a rock and then wait for the end of their life,” she said of the show, whose season 5 premiered this June.
She then shared her aspiration to be a role model for women over 50 through motherhood, retirement, or major life changes.
“I’m hoping that I’m the poster child for women over 50 to realise that post-menopause, the kids are gone, you may or not have a partner in your life anymore or want one or get one, but life is not over.”
Seymour said women can still use their experience, skills, and passion to begin new chapters.
“You may have retired, but it doesn’t mean you can’t now use your skill set and your passion for life to do something else with the skills that you have.”
She added that she enjoys playing characters close to her own age instead of trying to appear younger.
The actress also said she feels grateful to lead a series like Harry Wild, where she plays a strong and active character instead of being limited to small background roles.
Seymour rose to fame as Bond girl Solitaire in the 1973 film Live and Let Die. She later won Golden Globe Awards for East of Eden and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, which became one of her most successful television roles.
Earlier this year, Seymour also revealed that she accepted the lead role in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman while facing serious financial problems.
She said taking the job changed her career and opened the door to one of the biggest successes of her life.
