Jesse Eisenberg shares ‘terrifying’ details from upcoming movie ‘The Debut’

Jesse Eisenberg recently got candid and opened up about her forthcoming film, The Debut.

For those unaware, Eisenberg is not only showing his acting prowess in the new musical comedy film; he wrote and directed it as well. The Debut has an ensemble cast, including Julianne Moore, Halle Bailey, Havana Rose Liu, Colton Ryan, Bernadette Peters, Paul Giamatti, Lilli Cooper, and others.

While promoting his upcoming film in a talk with PEOPLE magazine at the Los Angeles premiere of Illumination’s Minions & Monsters on June 28, the 42-year-old American actor and playwright stated that the film reflects his own life, especially the transformation he went through over the years.

He said, “It’s really a movie about my life. In 1990, I got into community theater, and it was life-changing and terrifying, and I treated it with so much importance, even though it was just a silly local play, and that’s what the movie is kind of following, that spirit.”

“I hope people like it,” Eisenberg added.

Eulogizing Moore, The Social Network star quipped, “Julianne Moore has an amazing singing voice, and I think that will really … Well, she’s been in musicals.”

“She was in Dear Evan Hansen, but she is like a dynamo in this, and she gives an insane performance,” he remarked.

Moore is playing Mona Friedman in The Debut, who secures a role “in a bit part at a small community theater.”

“She transforms from a shy, unassuming housewife into a zealous method actor willing to do anything to protect the artistic integrity of her marginal role—even if it means waging war against the show’s domineering director,” according to the official synopsis.

It is pertinent to mention that The Debut is scheduled to hit theatres in the United States on December 3, 2026. Watch the trailer here.
