Jodie Turner-Smith shared that she is taking help from books in order to make her six-year-old daughter understand her parents’ divorce.
The 39-year-old actress, who parted her ways from ex husband Joshua Jackson back in 2023 and finalized their divorce in May 2025, opened up about how she navigates the conversations of new family dynamics with her daughter Juno.
“I’m a child of divorce myself, and so is my ex-husband. So it’s like it’s always been important to think about, ‘Okay, what is the language around which we are going to talk about this with our daughter?’ Because it is her new reality,” Jodie said on Hoda Kotb’s Joy 101 podcast.
She went on to say, “We’re learning as well and not always getting it totally right — but the idea is always two homes filled with love. And I’m like, ‘You got two houses, girl.'”
Jodie admitted that talking about divorce with a six-year-old can be hard but she wants to keep a balance between “being age appropriate and child-centered in the way that you talk about it.”
Along with that, the doting mom chose to be transparent as Juno “has an understanding of what this means.”
And Jodie’s “favorite tools” to use in these conversations are books.
“I read her so many books about divorce, about what that means. About what that new world is, about what is supposed to be happening, what’s not supposed to be happening.”
She added, “Children’s books have been helpful as well.”
Joshua and Jodie share joint custody of Juno while the 48-year-old Dawson’s Creek alum agreed to pay $2,787 in monthly child support.
